jPortlet is an open-source portlet container implementation. Portlets run inside the container like servlets on an application server; the Portlet API defines the contract. Pre–JSR 168; offers skinnable UI, MVC, Hibernate and Velocity integration, i18n, role-based security, and caching. Multi-device and multi-mode (view, edit, configure, help).
